The Unseen Fifteen

I feel as though I am learning and experiencing lots of new things but when I come to write about them, I feel stumped in how to put them into a creative and flowing text. So instead, here's a list of 15 things I have learned so far in Nicaragua:

1. It is hot, and I mean HOT, here. Embrace the sweat, the stink, and the sun.

2. Smiling is the same in all languages (generally), do it lots, especially when words don't come.

3. Journal lots, pray lots - check in with God often!

4. Being thankful for the big and little things brings a positive mindset that overpowers negativity. Be thankful!

Probably could have fit even more on!

5. A caponera is the 'taxi of motorcycles'. The bike has a seat in front with two wheels which can comfortably seat three people.... however, six people also works. Two on the motorcycle with the driver, three on the seat and one on the lap. Don't be too shocked when they keep pointing at their lap for you to sit on, just sit!

6. Learning a new language is exhausting. 100% grace and patience is needed for yourself and others.

7. Laugh as much as you can. If laughter doesn't come, just breathe!

8. Let others tell you what to do, they know more and really just want you to be safe.

9. Let go of what you are used to (this is an obvious one but extremely important).

10. Giggle when mice come into your room, or when one of the three dogs pees on your bed (true stories). *side note: this is not normal here, my family takes very good care of me

11. Clean! De-stress by taking control of something you can have control over!

12. Celebrate the good days so you don't forget about them when bad days come.

13. Cold showers are AMAZING (even when they're not, you tell yourself this).

14. Long distance relationships are hard, yet so good.

15. This will get normal, this will get easier, this will bear its fruit, this is GOD'S plan.

In conclusion, there are a lot of things I have to remember and am still learning. However, I am thankful for this process right now, even though it can be hard at times! Praise Jesus (:
